Why the effect of turbocharger in increasing the torque is more than engine displacement?
For example usually factories increase the size of engine to get more torque,but by installing turbochargers the torque increases more than that of increasing the displacement.I want to know the reason why turbos or superchargers increase the torque so much despite smaller displacements.
Well, turob- and super-chargers pack extra fuel/air mixture into the engine, and changing the displacement will simply give more room for fuel. Both will put about the same amount of fuel into the engine, but packing it in, as these accesories do, will, also, make higher compression, and drive the piston down faster. (If you want to turbo- or super-charge your car, you should supercharge it to eliminate engine lag.)
